Virtual Reality ... step into the rift :)

So its updates ya want is it ??

Well....

I got the source code merged with the Open Source code...
(wow, that short sentence does not reflect the work involved !!!
I'm not kidding when I say there were over 10,000 changes from
the original RtCW source and the GPL source !! talk about time
consuming)

Whilst doing that I also added WideScreen support :)
(Although still some issues remain with some menus alignment)

Done a lot of character modelling work *
A fair bit of Texture creation (hi def) *
Started a re-make of WW_town *

Now, my intentions regarding an anniversary edition of WW have
changed, it will be a direct port to the GPL source, ie all * items
will not be included.. this is for a couple of reasons...

1) Real life over the last few months meant I could not dedicate
enough time to include any updates

2) Some other exciting news :) .....

I am gona make a prediction...
Christmas 2013, a revolution will start... Virtual Reality of a level
not seen before, except in $50,000+ military simulations, will be
available to us all at a very realistic price :)

Can I point you to this web-page:
http://oculusvr.com/

and some You-Tube vids:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAbZizktzr8

This one is in arabic, but shows a view of what the player sees
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVNOMCMj1JY&t=2m

And from Quakecon this year (long vid !)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gaqQdyfAz8

I have backed their kickstarer project, and will receive their
dev kit this December... guess what I'll be doing over the new year ;)

Ultimately I still want to update WW to higher graphical/audio specs,
and create female models too, and LOADS of other stuffs, including
full Rift support.
To facilitate this, I need to be able to find the time to devote to
the development, and so am contemplating starting my own
kickstarter project, hopefully to raise the monies so I can dedicate
full time on development .. I'll keep you posted :)

So to finish this long post.. I am currently trying to get WW GPL compiled
on Linux, and when done, we can hopefully have a couple of weeks
testing before we release.

Peace,

Hewster

These are really great news, Hew! If you need some help with mapping - I can help out with making things pretty (I like details!) and I guess Ringo can help with making pretty things work!

Anyway, it's nice to see you haven't forgotten about us!

P.S.
Give us some screens (if there's any) to make (at least me) us orgasmic!

Version 1.701 has now been compiled for Windows and Linux, files have been sent to Ringo so he can setup a windows and Linux server for some testing.
Will post links to download when ready :)

Thought I's share a little of other WW dev stuffs, the following vid is a WIP
it shows some of the new textures I have created for the terrain.
NOTE: the engine used here is T3D (Torque 3D) with is now FREE !!

Hi !

once the 1701 is ready for testing , ill re-mirror the files and add a special 1.7 scanner version both Linux & Windows version have been approved stable and tested on :

(32bit)Win2003 Enterprise Server SP2
(32bit)Debian Lenny 2.6.26-2-686 #1 SMP

Additional OS testing (server wise) and howto's ill post later on

Hewster will decide on when to test , so when its up for testing ull know!
( btw the special scanner will ONLY hold test servers )

OK guys...I was able to get Dread to open up the Wildwest section of the forum over on Filefront. I think it is important to have activity there so please post there and here to get a larger community aware of this new release.
