Multi-core CPU's and The WildWest !

Post by Hewster » Mon May 14, 2012 6:32 pm

Found this problem some years ago ....

When running Wolf (and that means WildWest too) multi-core processors can cause horrible lag and poor FPS !!!

The answer is to force the engine to run on 1 core...

Now this can be done manually in the task manager (game must be running)...
right click the wolfmp.exe process, select "set affinity", and select just 1 core..

I have now found how to do this when starting the game via a shortcut :)

to-do....

create a shortcut to WolfMP.exe, then right-click the cut and choose properties...

in the "target" field, put the following...

cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 WolfMP.exe +set fs_game WildWest

LEAVE the "start in:" field alone !!!!

When you run the game via this shortcut, the game should start running on just core 0 :D

feedback appreciated.

Peace,

Hewster

ps. am looking at how I can do this in code for the anniversary release :)

Hey there...is this for all processors? I am running a Intel i7 core and cant see that i am having lag issues. Does this mean that the game will run better and i wont get shot as much...lol

All I know is, for me, running on 1 core makes the game MUCH more fluid :)

Try it and see :)

btw, it is a well known problem with older games (google it :) )

Again, feedback is appreciated.

dont think its the multi-core proc that is causing the problem : remember dual processors ( p2 mmx ) wasnt an issue at the time earlier compiling stuff in radiant wasnt either , i think your problem lies in your dual GFX setup ..i also have a Quad Core machine but with a single GFX board never had the issues u described but since u posted your beast specs :)
( warned u :P )
here u go ..

affiliate 1 also disables the 2nd GPU cores ..
